Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Eta Sigma diligently works to enrich the lives of people in our community through
numerous programs throughout the year. Below is an overview of some of our
major programs.
Programs
Sigma Youth Symposium
The Youth Symposium is an annual
event held on the second Saturday in
March simultaneously by all alumnae
chapters of Sigma Gamma Rho.
Traditionally, the Eta Sigma Chapter
sponsors a forum at the Mall West End
with speakers and vendors addressing
such topics as health, drugs, teen
pregnancy, and violence. For more

Operation Big Book Bag
Operation Big Book Bag is a program
which aims to meet the needs of
under-privileged children. The Eta
Sigma Chapter actively participates in
this initiative by collecting and
donating school supplies, health care
items, and clothing to the Carrie Steel
Pitts Orphanage and the Cascade
House (YWCA) throughout the year.
Founders’ Luncheon
Eta Sigma Chapter’s Annual Founders’ Luncheon is a
time-honored community event which brings together
family, friends, and supporters of the chapter’s
initiatives. During the event, the chapter presents the
coveted Community Service Award to a deserving
leader in the community. In addition, the Sigma of the
Year and the Evelyn H. Hood Loyalty Award recipients
are honored.

Masquerade Ball
The Masquerade Ball is an annual
event hosted by the Eta Sigma
Chapter. With its Mardi Gras
theme, the Ball showcases live
entertainment for a night full of
dancing.

One of Eta Sigma’s most prized signature programs is our Annual Debutante
Ball, currently in its 58th year of operation. Click here to learn more about our

Other programs sponsored by the Eta Sigma Chapter include: Wee Savers
(financial empowerment for youth), Mwanamugimu Essay Contest (African
heritage), Project Reassurance (teenage pregnancy), and Buckle Up America
(seat-belt safety).

In addition, the Eta Sigma Chapter participates on an annual basis in the Martin
Luther King, Jr. Day Parade, the March of Dimes Walk, and the AIDS Walk.

Philanthropies supported by the chapter include the National Education Fund,
the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the United
Negro College Fund.
